Serving Lake Zurich, IL — Part of Our Lake & McHenry Counties Service Area
Lake Zurich got its name in 1847, when early settler Seth Paine renamed the village's 228-acre glacial lake — originally called Cedar Lake — after Switzerland's Lake Zurich, inspired by the clear, deep waters of both. The settlement had been known as Sheldon's Grove at the time; the new name stuck, and by September 29, 1896, the village was formally incorporated. What makes Lake Zurich distinctive today isn't the Swiss name alone — it's that the lake at the center of the village, 32 feet deep at its maximum and completely enclosed within the village boundaries, still anchors almost every major park, residential development, and cultural landmark in town. Henry J. Paulus Park on the lakeshore runs a sandy village beach, picnic grounds, playgrounds, an athletic field, and a concert stage.
Lake Zurich Golf Club is actually a year older than the village — founded in 1895 as the first men's golf club in the Chicago area. Attorney Charlie Wood won a lawsuit and took 12 acres of land as payment, then leased 78 more to build the course. Jim Foulis, who with his brothers would eventually lay out roughly 40 golf courses across the Midwest, designed the nine-hole layout as his first professional commission. The three-story clubhouse went up in 1896. In 1912, when the Palatine, Lake Zurich & Wauconda Railroad tried to condemn a corner of the property, Wood discovered that cemeteries couldn't be taken by eminent domain — so he had the club legally incorporated as a cemetery, placed four gravestones near the third hole (bearing the names Lathrop Washington, Terrence O'Brien, Irving Cohen, and Jackson Washington Johnson), and the railroad rerouted. Early members over the following decades included Daniel Burnham Sr., Leo Burnett, ITW head Harold Smith, and Dick Tracy creator Chester Gould — whose original drawing of Tracy still hangs on a clubhouse wall.
The housing stock spans almost 130 years of continuous development. The village started actively building out in the 1950s. In the 1960s, the Village Board explicitly encouraged Alpine-style architecture to reinforce the Swiss theme — a few dozen buildings downtown still carry that Alpine look today. The later residential subdivisions ring out from that core: Mossley Hills (Magnum, late 1980s-early 1990s) south of Route 22; Wicklow Estates (late 1990s single-family); and Coventry Creek Estates (Dartmoor Homes, mid-to-late 2010s) with 4,200 to 5,000+ square foot custom homes on the southwest corner of Route 22 and Quentin Road. The Village Parks Department oversees 247 acres across 32 parks, including an arboretum, two lakefront beaches, 22 playgrounds, and miles of hiking and biking trails.

Yes. We clean lakefront siding, decks, boat docks, and seawall pavers regularly. Homes near the water build algae and mildew faster because of the humidity, so we soft-wash siding and use the right pressure for wood decks — no stripping, no damage.
Once a year for siding and decks. Lake-driven humidity on 228-acre Lake Zurich drives algae on north-facing siding, mildew on dock posts, and black streaking at the waterline for the many lakefront homes. Alpine-style downtown buildings carry stucco, timber, and decorative detail that must take soft-wash treatment, not pressure stripping. Lake Zurich Golf Club's 1896 clubhouse and century-old accessory structures require specialty mortar-safe care. Coventry Creek Estates' 2010s custom homes have modern material mixes (stone veneer, composite decking) needing different detergents than the Mossley Hills 80s-90s builds. Driveways and walkways benefit from a wash every 12 months too.
A typical driveway runs $200–$300. A full house wash is usually $300–$600 depending on size and material. Brick paver restoration and sealing is quoted by square footage. Every quote is free and there are no surprises.
